Kennedy Jr., has recently made significant changes to how Covid-19 vaccines are approved and the groups they are recommended for.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmb8fape200043b6mr5u3fzb6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            For the past few years, the federal government has broadly approved and recommended an updated Covid-19 shot for everyone ages 6 months and up each fall.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmb8fape200053b6mvz0mu272@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            But last week, leaders from the US Food and Drug Administration outlined a new framework for the approval process for Covid-19 vaccines that could limit shots to older Americans and people at higher risk of serious Covid-19 infection. These underlying conditions will make between 100 million and 200 million people in the US eligible for a Covid-19 vaccine under the new framework, the FDA leaders estimate.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmb8g37hv00003b6mcikyei8w@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Pregnancy is included on the list of factors that the CDC says have shown \u201ca conclusive increase in risk\u201d for at least one severe Covid-19 outcome. Kennedy did not offer a specific reason behind the decision to change recommendations for the Covid-19 for pregnant people, but the move appears to directly contradict the new FDA framework outlined a week earlier.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmbbclvhw00053b6mtxq0yi0z@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Many of the CDC\u2019s information pages continue to recommend the Covid-19 vaccine for pregnant women, but the adult immunization schedule has been changed to specify that the recommendation applies only to adults who aren\u2019t pregnant.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmb8fape2000a3b6msgtqo6f0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            For kids and adults younger than 65 who do not have an underlying condition, the FDA says it will require in-depth clinical trials before licensing new vaccines.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmb8fape2000b3b6ms56hzhg5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            An independent group of advisers to the CDC \u2013 the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, or ACIP \u2013 is expected meet at the end of June about Covid-19 vaccine recommendations, and it had already been weighing options for more targeted risk-based recommendations than the general guidelines issued in previous years.    <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subheader inline-placeholder subheader-elevate vossi-subheader vossi-subheader--size-h2\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/subheader\/instances\/cmb8fgxm100193b6my5uhnmwl@published\" data-component-name=\"subheader\" id=\"can-people-who-do-not-meet-the-new-eligibility-criteria-still-get-a-covid-19-shot-for-themselves-or-their-kids\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">        Can people who do not meet the new eligibility criteria still get a Covid-19 shot for themselves or their kids?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmb8fape2000d3b6mnqokbog4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Maybe, but it may be more difficult \u2013 and expensive.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmb8fape2000e3b6mke3gwbxf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cTheoretically, one could find someone who would be willing to provide them the vaccine \u2013 and they may have to pay out of pocket to get it \u2013 but there\u2019s a lot of things that have to align for that to happen,\u201d said Dr. Michelle Fiscus, a pediatrician and chief medical officer of the Association of Immunization Managers.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmb8fape2000f3b6my2kfo4db@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Health care providers may be able to provide the Covid-19 vaccine \u201coff-label\u201d \u2013 but they\u2019d need to have the vaccine in stock, which has become increasingly uncommon.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmb8fape2000g3b6m247r5oc7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The vast majority of Covid-19 vaccinations happen at pharmacies. Pharmacists generally don\u2019t have the tools to verify medical history and whether an individual has a condition that makes them high-risk, so many of them could take patients at their word. But the recent announcements from the federal government may have a chilling effect on what providers are willing to do, experts say.    <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subheader inline-placeholder subheader-elevate vossi-subheader vossi-subheader--size-h2\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/subheader\/instances\/cmb8fgmrz00163b6m737h0jzd@published\" data-component-name=\"subheader\" id=\"will-insurance-cover-covid-19-shots\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">        Will insurance cover Covid-19 shots?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmb8fape2000i3b6mww0b31xd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            It\u2019s likely that people who are covered by public insurance such as Medicare and Medicaid and who meet the new FDA eligibility requirements will continue to have Covid-19 vaccines covered, experts say.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmb8fape2000j3b6mhucwymnz@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            There\u2019s more uncertainty around how private insurance companies will choose to adjust coverage. Some of the conditions that the CDC lists as high-risk for Covid-19 \u2013 such as \u201cphysical inactivity\u201d \u2013 are loosely defined and may be left up to individual plans to interpret.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmbbck3d200023b6mdy4celuw@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Vaccines listed on the immunization schedule as recommended \u201cbased on shared clinical decision-making \u2013 as the Covid shot is for healthy children \u2013 are required to be covered by insurance with no cost-sharing, meaning no co-pays for patients, according to the CDC.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmb8fape2000k3b6m3e0lz2is@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Under the Affordable Care Act, insurance companies are required to cover vaccines for adults if they\u2019ve been recommended by ACIP.
