As part of the post, she shared a video that suggested material in the vaccines could stick around long-term and change a person\u2019s genome.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmblil08p000q3b6m3fpiq518@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Vaccine experts say that just isn\u2019t true.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmblfvtdg00003b6mvnjzluqd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The messenger RNA in Covid-19 vaccines instructs cells in the body to make a certain piece of the virus\u2019 spike protein \u2014 the structure on the surface of the coronavirus. The mRNA vaccine is like a blueprint that the body uses to train the immune system to recognize the virus that causes Covid and protect against it, said Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease expert at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmblbsbsb0007336mh54asemx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cMRNA is only in there in minute amounts,\u201d Schaffner said. \u201cThe spike protein is metabolized. It\u2019s broken up by our own body very, very quickly. The lipid nanoparticle, Rasmussen said, \u201calso don\u2019t stick around forever.\u201d She said they get broken down at about the same rate the mRNA does, \u201cor even maybe a little before.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmblbsbsb000c336m69con5d0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Schaffner believes maybe some of the language scientists use to describe how mRNA vaccines work may be unhelpful.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmblbsbsb000d336mmdt1dods@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cI wonder if the very name of the protein, this \u2018spike protein\u2019 just makes people uneasy,\u201d Schaffner said. Fear or distrust of Covid-19 vaccines is an easy target for supplement makers, Cohen said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmblbsbsb000j336mlnro9332@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cThis is a perfect scenario for supplements to jump in to the rescue,\u201d Cohen said. \u201cYou manufacture a false health concern, and then you have the solution that you can settle with a supplement. It\u2019s really a perfect opportunity for supplement manufacturers to profit from.
